Our Cause To Uplift the Albinism Community Has Momentum
International Albinism Awarenes Day
With less than 48 hours until #InternationalAlbinismAwarenessDay everyone is getting geared up for their virtual events and group collaboration to commemorate the date. In 2015 The United Nations worked through the gray areas and created a law that allows prosecution of poachers, that hunt persons with albinism. In previous times many individuals affected by this circumstance were left without one or more limbs. Many of the encounters were fatal.
Human rights are not a privilege. It is a necessity that all human beings are entitled to. However, within many minority communities and beyond, persons with albinism are not viewed equal. As a result, many members of the albinism community have emerged as leaders to reflect the needs and special interests of their community’s members.

In 2022, a great number of individuals around the world have picked up the mantle and created a platform to celebrate the beauty of albinism, by giving others an opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences. In doing so creating a positive resource that benefit person with albinism, parents of children with albinism and supporters, who are looking for this information. The people who share their experiences are the resources. While quite often persons from within the community tend to focus on what their lives are like living with albinism, we are more than the skin we are in.
Our collective voices shed light on the choices we make, the goals we set and our accomplishments.
Moving Forward As a Collective
Since there is no one way, to share our challenges, victories and joys, there have been many creative leaders organizations, movements and causes that have joined together to be a sounding board for a myriad of special interest pertaining to albinism. Things such as reducing low vision limitations with assistive technology, is at the top of the list.
The Albinism Alliance Group will enter its 23rd year of community efforts and content creation, in 2023. We initially started with the traditional colors of black and gold, with the purpose of bridging the gap of ignorance about albinism. Additionally, we rallied together in Atlanta, Georgia to create a positive representation for albinism within the African American community.
As we have grown, it is has become imperative to extend an invitation to all members of the albinism community, not just minorities, because there is no such thing as too much 
support. It is with great admiration that we say, “Albinism Defies Color”. In understanding this, no one color can represent all our special interests or causes. We honor that by moving outside of the box and selecting a myriad of campaigns and suitable colors that help emphasize and communicate the value of the effort. One size does not fit all because we are individuals and even so, we can work together to break big tasks such as reducing the stigma attached to having albinism, into smaller more manageable steps.

The ability to maintain autonomy and work together in an organized and purposeful manner, is the future for creating change.
What truly make us unique, is the effort we put toward abolishing adverse views on albinism; Views, such low vision equaling to incompetence or ideas that shadow person with albinism as less than. We do that by being a positive of example of this movement an passing the torch to the next generation. Great work for all who understood the assignment and stepped forward to make a difference. You and your work are a valuable asset. So keep up the good work.
